Recomendações para o 1º dia de Trabalho

YOUR FIRST DAY ON THE JOB

THE FIRST IMPRESSION: on your first day at work is important because it determines your future relationships at your workplace. Your new coworkers’ first impressions of you are based on your actions, comments, dress, and non-verbal behaviour.
Hopefully, you observed how others were dressed during your interview. If you paid attention, you already know how to DRESS on your first day. It is even clearer if the company gave you their written policy regarding dress. If you have to wear a uniform, make sure it fits, it is clean and not wrinkled.

COMMUNICATION: is not only what you say. Your body language also conveys powerful messages about your thoughts and feelings. Here are a few points about work place communication that may help you on your first day:
- Be an active listener
- Speak confidently; do not mumble
- Shake the hands of your fellow employees with confidence
- Make eye contact when you are introduced
- Offer a warm smile

Try and REMEMBER THE NAMES of people you meet. In reality, it is hard to remember everybody's name, but here are some strategies you can use:
- Practice remembering a few names every day, especially those of people you will be working with directly.
- Write some names down and read over the list before you go to work in the morning.
- Never be afraid to ask. It is all right to ask someone whose name you remember for someone's whose name you forgot.

ON YOUR FIRST DAY:
- People might not pay a lot of attention to you. They may go on with their business without noticing you are there.
- People might make a lot of effort to welcome you to the organization.
- Expect high emotions from yourself such as excitement, anticipation, nervousness, anxiety, fear.

HOW TO SURVIVE YOUR FIRST DAY:
- Be humble. Being nervous is human and natural.
- Be nice to others first; do not wait for them to be nice to you.
- Have a sincere desire to join the group; let them feel that you want to be a team member.
- Try to do everything you can to have a positive start.
- Observe what is going on around you. This will give you a better idea of how things work.
- If you are not clear on what you should be doing on your first day, ask

Good Luck !

    :)
